Dysport is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to treat:
– cervical dystonia (CD) in adults
– increased muscle stiffness in adults with spasticity
– increased muscle stiffness in children 2 years of age and older with lower limb spasticity
It is not known whether Dysport is safe or effective in children under 2 years old for the treatment of lower limb spasticity; for treating other types of muscle spasms; or for treating cervical dystonia or upper limb spasticity in children under 18 years of age.
Cosmetic uses:
– Between the eyebrows (glabellar region), to treat moderate to severe frown lines
– Around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s feet lines
How long does the result last?
Results are instant from the first treatment. In general, results last from 4 to 8 months. The duration of the result depends on factors such as skin type, age and lifestyle.
How Dysport works:
Dysport contains a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by stopping your muscles contracting. It does this by stopping the release of a chemical which acts between the nerves and muscles that makes the muscles contract. This helps to reduce abnormal muscle contractions known as spasms.
2. What you need to know before you are given Dysport
Do not use Dysport:
If you are allergic to botulinum toxin type A or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions:
There are increased risks of having Dysport injections under any of these circumstances.
